Benjamin Mendy Hit with More Rape Charges
Manchester City defender, Benjamin Mendy, has been handed two additional counts of rape, as per a statement released by Crown Prosecution Service on Tuesday, 16 November.
The 27-year-old Frenchman was suspended by the reigning English Premier League champions in September after he was initially charged with four counts of rape and one count of sexual assault relating to complainants over the age of 16.
According to reports, these incidents allegedly took place between October 2020 and August 2021. Mendy has yet to formally enter a plea, although his legal team have denied the allegations.
Another man, Louis Saha Matturie, was charged with two more counts of rape and one of sexual assault in relation to these incidents, specifically between May 2021 and August 2021.
Mendy and Matturie are both due to appear at Stockport Magistrates’ Court today, Wednesday 17 November, presumably to be formally charged with the additional offences.
They are scheduled to go on trial on 24 January 2022.
